“Mezzavalle”
Description: first, long stretch of white beach on the Riviera del Conero. The difficulty in reaching this spot, either by sea or by walking the steep trail north of Portonovo, is definitely worthwhile for the riveting and particular beauty of this beach. There are no bathing establishments but there are some showers, toilets and a restaurant.
Type of beach: pebbles and shingle
How to get there: by car on the “Strada Provinciale del Conero” following directions for Portonovo; on foot, by taking either of two paths, of which one path is longer and more complicated, the other shorter and steeper.
“Portonovo Beach”
Description: a splendid bay at the foot of the north face of Mount Conero. Patches of an intense green with splashes of the bright, yellow gorse of the maquis and the stark, white stones of the shore create a unique, spectacular contrast. There are some restaurants, with a terrace overlooking the sea, that are renowned for fish-based specialities, whilst other parts of the beach are bare. The perfect place for windsurfers when southerly and south-easterly winds blow.
